Remethan®

Presentations

Enteric-coated tablets 25 and 50mg.
Slow-release tablets 100mg.
Topical gel 1% 20,50 and 100mg.
Suppositories 100mg.


Properties:

Diclofenac sodium, the active ingredient of Remethan® is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID), a phenylacetic acid derivative, which has marked analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase.


Indications

Remethan® is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, oseteoarthrosis, low back pain, frozen shoulder, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, strains, sprains and acute gout.
Remethan® is also indicated for the control of pain and inflammation in orthopaedic, dental and other minor surgery.
Remethan® 25: In children is indicated for the treatment of Juveline chronic arthritis.
Remethan® 100R: is not indicated for children. Remethan®gel: is indicated for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in: trauma of the tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints, e.g. due to sprains, strains and bruises, localised forms of soft tissue rheumatism and for the treatment of osteoarthritis of superficial joints such as the knee.


Dosage

Remethan® 25 and 50mg


Adults: the recommended adult dose is 75-150mg daily given in two or three divided doses. The maximum daily dose is 150mg.
Children: Children should be given 1-3mg/kg per day in divided doses (only for remethan® 25).

Remethan® 100R

Adults: the recommended adult dose is one tablet daily, taken whole with liquid, preferably at meal times. If necessary, the daily dosage can be increased to 150 mg by supplementation with conventional remethan® Tablets.

Remethan® Gel

Adults: Remethan® Gel should be rubbed gently into the skin. Depending on the size of the affected side to be treated 2-4g(a circular shaped mass approximately 2. 0-2.5cm in diameter) should be applied 3-4 times daily. Remethan® Gel is not recommended for use in children.

Remethan® Suppositories

Adults: the recommended dose is one 100mg suppository daily, usually administrated at night. In more severe cases, combined therapy with 25 or 50mg tablets is recommended. The total daily dose should not exceed 150mg.

Side-effects


There have been reported: gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, haematological effects, liver or renal dysfunction, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular effects. For more information please see the summary of product characteristics.
