Thelmox®

Properties

Mebendazole, the active ingredient of Thelmox®, is a broad spectrum anthelmintic which is not significantly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract.

Indications

Thelmox® it is used principally in the treatment of the following intestinal infections. Enterobius vermicularis infections:
• Enterobius vermicularis(Threadworm)
• Oxyuris vermicularis(Pinworm)
• Trichuris trichiura (Whipworm)
• Ascaris lumbricoides (Roundworm)
• Ancylostoma duodenale(Hookworm)
• Necator americanus (American hookworm)
In single or mixed infections.

Dosage

The dose for adults and children over 2 years old is as follows:

1) Enterobius vermicularis (Threadworm)

One 100mg tablet in a single dose, repeated if necessary after 2 to 3 weeks.It is recommended that all members of the family be treated simultaneously.

2) Trichurits trichiura (Whipworm)
Ascaris lumbricoides (Roundworm)
Ancylostoma duodenale (Hookworm)
Necator americanus (American hookworm).

Ascaris lumbricoids(Roundworm). One tablet in the morning and one in the evening for three consecutive days.Thelmox® tablets may be chewed or swallowed


Side-effects

Gastro-intestinal disturbances, such as transient abdominal pain and diarrhoea may occur. There have been rare reports of reversible liver function disturbances, hepatitis, glomerulonephritis and neutropenia described in patients who were treated with large doses for prolonged periods of time.
