Trizolin® (Antibacterial Spectrum)

Composition

The active ingredient of Trizolin® is Norfloxacin.

Indications

Trizolin® is a board spectrum bactericidal agent indicated for:


The treatment of:


1) Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
2) Bacterial gastroenteritis.
3) Uncomplicated gonorrhoea and gonococcal urethritis caused by penicillinase producing Neisseria gonorrhoea.
4) Typhoid fever.


The Prophylaxis of:


1) Sepsis in patients with profound neutropenia
2) Bacterial gastroenteritis

Dosage

Treatment:


Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated): Oral, 400mg every 12 hours for 3-10days
Urinary tract infections (complicated): Oral, 400mg every 12 hours for 7-10 days.
Bacterial gastroenteritis: Oral, 400mg every 8-12 hours for 5 days.
Uncomplicated gonorrhoea and gonococcal urethritis: Oral, 800mg single dose.


Prophylaxis:


Sepsis of profound neutropenia: Oral, 400mg three times daily.
Bacterial gastroenteritis: Oral, 400mg daily, starting 24 hours prior to arrival and continuing 48 hours after departure from endemic areas.

Side-Effects

In the clinical studies reported to date, side-effects from Trizolin®have been minimal and occur with less frequency than with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole or nalidixic acid. Reported side-effects include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, dizziness,headache,drowsiness,depression and a bitter taste in the mouth.
