Properties
Nifedipine the active ingredient of Calcicor® is a selective calcium Channel blocker (dihyropyridine) with mainly Vascular effects. Orally administered nifedipine is almost Completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and Undergoes first-pass metabolism in the live. Nifedipine is Approximately 95% bound to plasma protein.
Indications
Calcicor® is indicated for the treatmentof hypertenxion and Raynaud’s syndrome and for prophylaxis of chronic stable Angina pectoris.
Dosage
Adults: the recommended starting dose is 5mg every eight hours with subsequent titration of dose according to response. The dose can be increased to 20mg every eight hours.
Children: Calcicor® is not recommended for use in children.
Side Effects
Most undesirable effects are consequences of the vasodilatory effects o fnifedipine and usually regress up on withdrawal of Therapy. In all clinical studies the following effects were commonly reported; headache, palpitations, lethargy, constipation, dizziness and oedema.
