Composition
The active ingredients of Clavomid® are Amoxicillin and Calvulanic Acid.
Indications
Upper and Lower respiratory Tract infections: sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and bronchopneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemomophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis.
Genito-urinary tract and Abdominal infections: cystitis, septic abortion, pelvic or puerperal sepsis and intra-abdominal sepsis caused by Enterobacteriaceae (mainly E. Colli), Staphylococcus saprophiticus, Enterococcus species.
Skin and soft tissue infections: cellulitis, animal bites and severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Bacteroides species.
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years: one 375mg tablet three times a day. In severe infections one 625mg tablet three times a day. In dental infections: one 375mg tablet three times a day for five days.
Dosage in renal impairment: creatinine clearance 10-30 ml/min-one 375mg tablet every 12 hours; creatinine clearance < 10 ml/min: not more than one 375mg tablet every 12 hours, 625mg tablets are not recommended.
Dosage in hepatic impairment: dose with caution; monitor hepatic function at regular intervals.
Children <= 12 years: Clavomid® is not recommended.
Duration of theraphy should not exceed 14 days without review.
Side-effects
Clavomid® is generally well tolerated. The most frequently reported side effects were diarrhea/loose stools, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, urticaria and vaginitis. Also rarely have been reported cases of rise in serum transaminases, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, interstitial nephritis and haematologic reactions.
