Presentation

Spray 1% solution, Cream 1%, Vaginal Tablets 100, 200 and 500mg.

Properties

Clotrimazole, the active ingredient of Mycoril®, is a broad spectrum imidazole antifungal. It acts by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, leading to structural and functional impairment in the cytoplasmatic membrane. Depending on the concentration at the site of infection, clotrimazole can be fungistatic or fungicidal.

 Indications

Mycoril® Vaginal tablets are indicated for the treatment of candidal vaginitis.

Mycoril® Cream and spay are indicated for the treatment of dermatomycoses, skin diseases showing secondary fungal infections, Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) and Tinea cruis.

Dosage

Vaginal tablets 100mg – two tablets, inserted in the vagina for the three consecutive days or one tablet for six consecutive days; 200mg – one tablet for three consecutive days; 500mg – one tablet for one day.

Cream and spray: should be thinly applied to the affected area two or three times daily for a period of 2 or 4 weeks.

Side-effects

Rarely patients may experience local mild burning or irritation. Very rarely the patient may find this intolerable and stop treatment. Also, hypersensitivity reactions, allergic reactions, pruritus and rash may occur.

Precautions

Medical history assessment and clinical examination are necessary before prescribing
Mycoril® vaginal tablets.

Mycoril® spray: should not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes, ears or mucous membrances; should not be inhaled or used near naked flame.

Interactions: when used together, clotrimazole vaginal tablets may cause damage to latex contraceptives. Please avoid using together clotrimazole cream/spray with topical Nystain, because of the possibility of antagonism.
